This is the term that matters most, so it comes first. The Stat Method provides general educational information and estimates produced by published formulas. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and using it does not create any clinician–patient relationship.

Every number this site produces is an estimate with a margin of error, generated by an equation derived from a study population that may not resemble you. Body-fat methods, calorie equations, and weight ranges are screening and planning tools, not measurements of your health.

Talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian before making significant changes to how you eat or train, and especially if you are pregnant, have a history of disordered eating, or manage any medical condition. If a result here conflicts with what a qualified professional has told you, follow the professional.

Who these tools are for

These calculators are built for adults aged 18 and over. The equations behind them were developed and validated on adult bodies and do not produce meaningful results for people who are still growing.

Accuracy, and what to do when we get it wrong

We work hard to source every formula and state its limitations, and we publish corrections rather than quietly editing. But we make no warranty that the site is error-free. If you spot a mistake, please report it — that is genuinely the fastest way this gets better.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Stat Method and its contributors are not liable for any loss or injury arising from use of this site or reliance on information found here. You use these tools at your own discretion and risk.

Children

This site is not directed at children and its tools are not appropriate for them. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone of any age, because we do not collect information at all.

Governing law

This site is operated from the United States. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here limits any right you have under consumer-protection law that cannot be waived by agreement.

Written content on this site is ours. The calculator code is open source under the terms stated in its repository. Cited studies belong to their authors and publishers; we link rather than reproduce.
